overview this document explains how refundid’s native exchange functionality integrates with shopify when using standard exchanges and new order creation this approach will create a brand new order in shopify with the customer's exchange items at the time of approval how it works at the time a customer lodges a standard exchange, refundid creates a draft order in shopify containing the items the customer has selected to exchange for this draft order holds inventory for the selected items prevents the items from being oversold during the exchange process remains in draft state until the exchange is approved or cancelled inventory is held on the draft order for one year if the return is cancelled, declined, or otherwise becomes invalid, the draft order is cancelled and the held inventory is released back into shopify by default, refundid will hold inventory on shopify if you have an external erp or wms that overrides stock in shopify, these holds may not flow downstream and may require more work to set up connect with your account manager or merchant support to see how this can be supported item value and order details the items on the draft order retain their full value based on the exchange configuration at the time the customer lodged the exchange items are not discounted to zero the draft order will include the exchanged items at their applicable value outbound shipping any other standard order information required for fulfilment order approval and completion when the retailer approves the exchange refundid completes the draft order the draft order becomes a finalised shopify order the new order receives a brand new shopify order number payment is recorded on the new order for reporting purposes at the same time the original order is marked as returned the exchanged items are removed from the original order by issuing a $0 refund against those items shopify reporting reflects a return on the original order and a new sale on the exchange order without double counting revenue no actual funds are moved through shopify for the exchanged item value order linking and identification the newly created exchange order includes tags identifying it as a refundid exchange order notes referencing the original order number clear links back to the original order for easy reconciliation the new order will always have its own unique order number and will not reuse or inherit the original order number upsell revenue if the customer selects higher value items during the exchange upsell revenue is collected through refundid upsell payouts are issued via refundid’s standard upsell revenue payout process upsell revenue is recorded in shopify analytics and reporting upsell revenue does not appear in shopify payouts refer to the additional charges docid\ tukcfeswiktrt dmbb9s7 section for more information
