outline resolutions define the outcome a customer receives when their return is approved they are one of the most important components of your returns setup, as they determine what customers are offered during the return journey and how refundid interacts with shopify to process the return common resolution types include refunds (standard and instant) store credit (gift cards or shopify native store credit) exchanges (standard, instant, variant, any item, on site, in portal) custom resolutions resolutions control both the customer experience and the ecommerce platform behaviour behind the scenes how resolutions work when a customer lodges a return, they are presented with one or more resolution options the resolutions they see are determined by the resolutions you have enabled your flow configuration eligibility rules (for example, instant eligibility, gift card restrictions, product exclusions) once approved, the selected resolution determines how refundid interacts with your ecommerce platform for example, with shopify retailers a standard refund issues a refund through shopify to the original payment method an instant refund pays the customer upfront and later reconciles with the retailer a gift card resolution creates a shopify gift card and applies a $0 refund to record the return shopify native store credit refunds directly into the customer’s shopify balance a standard exchange creates a new exchange order and adjusts reporting to prevent double counting an instant exchange places a new order at lodgement and manages financial risk custom resolutions may partially interact with shopify or not interact at all each resolution type has specific operational and reporting behaviour, which is covered in detail in the resolution section setting up a resolution to create or edit a resolution go to settings navigate to resolutions click add resolution select the desired resolution type configure internal name display name description any relevant settings (such as shipping, pricing, expiry, bonus credit, etc ) save your changes after creating a resolution, you should update any relevant flows test the resolution end to end confirm the ecommerce platform behaviour aligns with your expectations things to consider before going live when configuring resolutions, consider which resolutions you want customers to choose from whether you want to offer instant products if you're issuing credits or gift cards, which provider are you using how exchanges should behave (variant vs any item, instant vs standard) how return fees and shipping charges should be applied how reporting will appear in your ecommerce platform different resolution types affect analytics, reconciliation, and billing differently it’s important to understand how each one records in your ecommerce platform before launching linking resolutions with flows resolutions work hand in hand with flows while resolutions define what can happen , flows define when and to whom they are available for example, you might offer instant refund only to certain customers restrict sale items to store credit only exclude certain products from exchange flows control that logic you can read about flows in the flows docid\ hh zbvcggpkocri2oam71 section
