overview outbound shipping refers to the delivery of the new item a customer receives as part of an exchange when an exchange is processed, a new order is created and outbound shipping is applied to that order outbound shipping settings ensure the exchanged item is shipped using the correct carrier and pricing rules, while also allowing retailers to control how shipping costs are calculated and charged during the exchange experience how it works when an exchange order is created, refundid applies an outbound shipping method to the new order in shopify if a specific outbound shipping method has been configured, refundid will attach the selected shopify shipping carrier and rate to the exchange order this allows the order to follow your existing shipping logic, including carrier selection, pricing, taxes, and duties if no outbound shipping method is defined, refundid will create a custom shipping rate on the exchange order called exchange order shipping this rate will use the outbound shipping cost configured for exchanges retailers have full control over outbound shipping configuration, including editing the name of the shipping carrier selecting which shopify shipping carrier is used adjusting shipping costs and pricing rules important notes there are a couple of things that are important to note when setting up outbound carriers when setting up a carrier, you can force refundid to always choose a specific carrier based on the carrier id if the fixed price set in refundid does not match the fixed price set in shopify for that carrier, refundid will create a custom rate with the same name using that fixed amount if outbound shipping is used to calculate taxes or duties (for example, when using platforms like global e), it’s important that the correct shopify shipping carriers are mapped in these cases, using a custom shipping rate may prevent taxes or duties from being calculated correctly
