overview this document explains how return fees and deductions are handled for instant refunds , including return shipping fees and return reason fees for instant refunds, all applicable fees are deducted at the time of lodgement , meaning the customer receives their refund amount less any applicable fees how deductions work when an instant refund is lodged any applicable return fees are calculated immediately the refund amount issued to the customer is reduced by the fee amount the customer receives the net refund after deductions at settlement the retailer repays refundid the original refund amount less any fees (except when a refundid owned carrier account is used see information on this further down) all deductions are fully reconciled at the time of lodgement this ensures there are no adjustments required later in the return lifecycle types of fees and deductions fees and deductions that may apply to instant refunds include return shipping fees return reason fees any other configured return related deductions these fees are always deducted from the refund amount provided to the customer refundid owned carrier accounts if a retailer is using a refundid owned carrier account the customer receives an instant refund less the return shipping cost the retailer repays refundid the full refund amount refundid retains the shipping fee to cover the cost of the return label in this scenario the retailer is not paying for return shipping the customer effectively funds the shipping via a reduced refund the label fee is reconciled automatically to cover the carrier cost
